John Yates True Trio

This high quality handmade tea set from the regency period, circa 1820, was made at John and William Yates pottery in Hanley, Staffordshire, England.  Patten number 1120 in red to all pieces.

For similar examples see A Compendium of British Cups by Michael Berthoud – Pages 129 and 131 plates 773, 774 and 781.

Now highly collectable this tea set is typical of the era with a Royal Fluted shape and Old English handles. Made of early white porcelain, each piece has been hand painted with panels of floral sprays on a Salmon pink ground and lavishly gilded.

Teacup – 5 cm x 10 cm diameter

Coffee cup – 6.5 cm x 8.5 cm diameter

Saucer – 15 cm diameter

Good condition with no damage, may have a tiny bit of gilding rub – 200+ years old.

As these are all hand painted patterns may vary slightly from photos.

Description

John Yates – the eldest of John Yates is recorded as an earthenware manufacturer in Hanley from 1779 until 1796. His sons William (died 1825 aged 58) and John (died 1828 aged 68) had a factory in Shelton which was operated by Members of the Yates Family until 1834.
