Minton Sardine Box


Rare Majolica box from the Minton Factory, Stoke on Trent since 1793. Minton is regarded as the best of the English potteries and as such is very sought after by collectors.

Designed by George Jones the sardine box features a sardine laying on a bed of reeds forming the lid and a wicker basket forming the dish. Turquoise ground version. Colouration: green, turquoise, ochre, are predominant.

Circa 1870

Measurements approx:   4 ins high, 8 ins long, 7 ins wide

Condition: Excellent, no damages or repairs, only a tiny amount of crazing on the rim.
