Rare 1930s Art Deco Shelley tea set. Oxford shape cup, saucer and plate, all marked with the green Shelley England factory stamp to base and red lettering C for the shape. Beautifully hand painted with orange Physalis ( cape gooseberry ), painter signature B and pattern number 12299, with the handles and rims painted a burnt orange colour.

Trio consists of 

1 Teacup – Height: 7 cms x 8.5 cms diameter

1 Saucer – 14 cms

1 Square Tea plate – 16 cm 

Excellent condition, no staining or crazing, looks unused.

Description

The collector societies for Shelley china are worldwide, from it’s 1827 inception to the close of the pottery in 1966 it’s china has been a firm favourite in homes. Based in Staffordshire, the pottery crafted thin translucent, yet strong china items in thousands of different patterns, noted by number and sometimes by name.
