Hammersley and Co. has a history of producing high quality, finely decorated bone china. The company began in 1862 as a china manufacturer at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent and went through several name changes before the works finally closed in 1982.  The Hammersley name was sold to Aynsley in 1989.

Bone china bowl decorated with Sweet Peas – Pattern # 5049

No backstamp but same set as the trios – Made in England, dated circa 1920.

This would make the perfect present as in the Victorian Language of Flowers the giving of Sweet Peas means “thank you for the lovely time”.

Lovely condition, on close inspection there are a few scratches on paintwork but it is 100 years old.
