Thomas Goode “Chelsea” Tall Jug


“New Chelsea” is a fabulous tea set, made for Goode’s in the early part of the twentieth century, Hammersley superior quality and shape with classic footed bases to cups, bowl and jug. Each piece has been beautifully decorated with enamel flower sprays including roses, tulips, anemones, morning glory….. and for added luxury burnished gold adorns the rims.

Thomas Goode is a china retailer in Mayfair, London. Established in 1827 by Thomas Goode and latterly expanded by his son William, it was William who travelled extensively searching for quality china for the shop which attracted several notable customers including Queen Victoria and the Tsar of Russia. Today it holds two royal warrants to supply the British royal household, one from Queen Elizabeth II and the other from the Prince of Wales.

Hammersley and Co. has a history of producing high quality, finely decorated bone china. The company began in 1862 as a china manufacturer at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent and went through several name changes before the works finally closed in 1982.  The Hammersley name was sold to Aynsley in 1989.
